Coverage-2003

Coverage CD Cover

Date of Release: Oct 21, 2003 US
Label: Epic
Units Sold: 291,000 (US) Platinum (Philippines)
Peak Chart Position: Billboard 200 #14

Release Bio:

Looking to shy away from the teen pop scene, Mandy Moore decided to shed away from her pop past and make a different kind of CD that reflected on her new, maturing style. She decided to make a CD of cover songs from artists that she has just discovered. At age 19, Moore found herself creating a CD that she wanted to create, that her label, Epic/Sony were against. Lacking decent promotion and the proper backing from her label, Coverage did not sell well in the US. Moore decided it was time for a change, to do music she wanted to do, from a new style that she felt comfortable with. Sony wanted her to do more pop related tunes, that made her successful, and she was later dropped from the label. She would release Have A Little Faith In Me, which would get very little airplay, and would not even enter the Hot 100 Singles chart. Mandy hoped that covering songs from the likes of such legendary artists as Joan Armatrading, Elton John, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell Carly Simon, Carole King, and more, would open up a new, wider audience of fans. Although the US did not take to her new style, and lack of proper promotion, Coverage did become a success in the Philippines as Coverage would achieve platinum status. A deluxe edition of Coverage was later released which included a DVD that featured her video Have A Little Faith In Me, along with a 30 minute interview with Moore discussing her journey of making Coverage and the enjoying experience she had. The deluxe edition also featured a different cd cover. Coverage, although not a big seller, is some of her best work, musically, to date.
